Quick Hits After Opening the Year with a Thud

Let's catch up on the latest Cubs notes before they take the field tonight for Game 3 against the Braves.
  • Tonight Soriano, Soto, and Fontenot are all out of the lineup. Colvin, Hill, and Baker will all get their first starts of the year.
  • Randy Wells will be on the hill for the Cubs tonight.
  • Zambrano's next start will be Saturday in Cincinnati.
  • Alfonso Soriano said that his knee feels very good so far this season.
  • Minor league Opening Night is tonight. Andrew Cashner will pitch for Tennessee, Mike Parisi for Iowa, and Rafael Dolis for Daytona.
  • Jeff Gray and John Gaub are among guys to watch at the minor league level. Look for the Cubs to make a call up sooner rather than later if the relievers continue to struggle.
  • Lou Piniella just wants everyone to calm down. He is right on one thing for sure- it's only been two game.
  • Kosuke Fukudome won the Cubs random NCAA Basketball hat draw by picking Butler. This was his second straight year winning. The spread this year was seven points, and Kevin Millar had Duke.
  • The Cubs are worth 4% more than they were a year ago.
  • It's sunny now in Atlanta, and it looks like there will be baseball in the next hour.
  • Ted Lilly's rehab start at AAA has been pushed back to Saturday because of back stiffness. Lou claims that this is not a setback.
  • A statue of Jack Brickhouse will now become part of the city's public art collection.
  • Ron Santo lost a tooth biting into a piece of pizza before a Spring Training game last month.
  • The Cub Reporter has the countdown until the end of Soriano's contract going. Good thing Cubs fans are used to long waits.

Let's go get the first "W" of '10!

That's it for now, but I'll keep you posted.
