Weekend Quick Hits: Lilly Updates, Zambrano on Rehab, Rumors and More

The Cubs have looked good so far, winning the first two games against the Phillies to start the second half! Here's the latest news and notes with rumors and more!
  • ESPN.com Chicago baseball insider Bruce Levine reports that the Phillies, Rockies, and Tigers have all had conversations about Ryan Theriot in the recent weeks.
  • He adds that the Mets, Twins, Tigers, and Dodgers all have had talks with the Cubs about Lilly in recent days, and that the Rangers have some interest in Xaiver Nady.
  • Lou Piniella tells Carrie Muskat that Lilly wants to stay in Chicago and the coaching staff would like for him to stay in Chicago.
  • Cubs fans have a chance to support a good cause and ride their bike from Chicago to Miller Park for the Cubs/Brewers game on 9/11.
  • Carlos Zambrano is out of therapy and has begun his rehab assignment at the team's Spring Training home in Mesa, Arizona according to Paul Sullivan. He tossed 25 pitches and could start a minor league rehab in the next week.
  • Lou said that the Cubs plan to put Big Z in the bullpen but they "could do anything."
  • Piniella spent the three-day All-Star Break enjoying the city of Chicago with his family.
  • Sullivan reports that Jim Hendry talked with Teddy about his future before last night's game.
