Breaking News: Zambrano Suspended

Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has been suspended indefinitely for his actions in the first inning of today's game against the White Sox. For those of you that missed it, Z through a temper tantrum in the dugout after allowing four runs in the first inning. To make matters worse, Zambrano was not mad at himself but he was mad at his teammates for not diving for some of the base hits in the frame. Carlos and Derrek Lee had a face-to-face spat that was broken up by Lou Piniella and Larry Rothschild. Zambrano was removed from the game at sent home by Lou after the first inning. Tom Gorzelanny came in and the bullpen did a nice job, but the offense could not muster up anything in a 6-0 Cubs loss.

Piniella called Zambrano's behavior unacceptable, saying that he would have to apologize to his teammates as a start. Lou added that he would support whatever decision GM Jim Hendry made regarding the issue. Hendry made his decision about 20 minutes later that Z is suspended until further notice.

The one time ace's future with this ballclub is in question, if not in doubt.
