Cubs pull one out againt the Sox, Soto, Bradley, and More

  • The Cubs held on to beat the White Sox by a run today. Jake Fox and Geovany Soto delivered home runs. Carlos Marmol struggled in the 8th walking 2 and allowing 2 hits are retiring just 1 man. However, Sean Marshall came in and threw 1 pitch and got a big double play!
  • The Cubs needed this win! Kevin Gregg got the save!
  • Milton Bradley was pulled from the game today after exchanging some words with Lou in the dugout after Bradley was retired in his first 3.
  • Geovany Soto tested positive for marijuana during the WBC. Soto admits to having tried it once but says it was a big mistake. Piniella admitted that he "smoked a dope one time in my life and it didn't do a (bleep) thing for me and I never tried it again. Let's hope Soto's 3 run bomb today is a sign that he's back.
  • The Cubs No. 1 Draft pick Brett Jackson has passed his physical and officially signed his contract worth $972,000. The outfielder will head to Arizona to workout at Fitch Park before joining Class A Short Season Boise.
  • Note that the July 6 game at Wrigley against the Braves will start at 6:05 instead of 7:05.
  • Aramis Ramirez took BP today and could begin a rehab assignment soon. This is great news! We need Rami!
  • Aaron Miles has been bothered by a hyper extended right elbow and is day-to-day.
  • Angel Guzman threw a side session today and all went well.
  • Reed Johnson said on his blog that he will be playing on the 16th day on the DL.
  • The Cubs will send a pair of minor leaguers to the Futures Game, part of MLB All Star Weekend. Josh Vitter will play 3B for the USA Team, and Starlin Castro will play SS for the World Team. The 11th annual event will take place on All-Star Sunday, July 12 at 1 PM CT. MLB.com and ESPN2 will cover the game. Last year, the Cubs were represented by Welington Castillo.
  • Jayson Stark on ESPN.com says the Cubs have considered trying to reacquire Mark DeRosa.
  • They've also done some searching for a bat, but they're not sure where they'd play that new hitter. Stark says this give versatile DeRosa extra appeal.
