June 8 Off Day Notes: Minor League Report, Radio Recaps and more!

Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune joined Mully and Hanley today to talk Cubs:
  • Zambrano told Sullivan that he will be out of baseball after the contract is up.
  • Paul and Carlos have a $100 bet over whether Big Z will retire at the end of this contract.
  • He is sure that Zambrano will change his mind and no one is taking him seriously.
  • Sullvian said that Z could have easily gotten permission to miss the team flight, but he wanted to do things his own way.
  • Sully called Carlos "The Reggie Jackson of the team".
  • Lou met with Carlos once about the flight and it was only 5-10 minutes long.
  • The Cubs have the starting pitching to put together a winning streak. The hitters have wasted a lot of good starts by the staff.
  • The offense has been "painful to watch", and this team is going to have to win a lot of low scoring games this season.
  • Paul says that this just "isn't a good lineup, it just isn't".
  • The media has known about Dempster's daughter since April, but the writers were asked to not write about it until Demp decided he wanted to talk about it this weekend.
  • Ryan says that he feels a lot better when he's with his teammates and baseball is helping him get through this.

Next on Mully & Hanley, Tim Kolishaw of Dallas Morning News talked about Sammy Sosa:

  • Kolishaw is leaning towards voting for Sammy on his ballot for the Hall of Fame.
  • McGuire is at a whole different level of guilt than Sosa.
  • Tim doesn't think the corked bat keeps him out of the Hall of Fame.
  • Kolishaw doesn't think it is right to keep all steroid possible users out of the Hall of Fame unless there is clear evidence against them.
  • Kolishaw says that the good thing with A-Rod is that he has a few more years to play and the writers still have 10 more years to decide if they will voted for him. Tim seemed to be leaning towards voting no for Alex.
  • Tim thinks all the writers are up in the air about the steroids users.
  • The guys think that if you take Sosa, you have to take Bonds and his incredible numbers.
  • It's going to be hard to write down Barry's name on a ballot.
  • Kolishaw doesn't think Rodrigez will finish with better numbers with than Barry.

The Cubs have another Off Day next Monday, so I will wait until then to update the Former Cubs.
