All Stars, Roster Moves, Rehabs, and More

All Stars?
Coming up today at Noon CT is the MLB All Star Selection Show. Soriano, who should not be on the team, was 4th in the OF at the last fan voting update. The top 3 start in the outfield. The starting position players and determined by fan voting, pitchers and reserves are picked by the manger and some by player voting. By rule, each team must have one player on the team. Last year, the Cubs did not have to worry about this rule, they sent a league most 8 players to the mid-summer classic. This year, however, they will most likely have only 1 representative, 2-3 at the most. Who will represent the Cubs? I'll update you as soon as it is announced on TBS at noon.

Rehabs
  • Aramis Ramirez went 1-2 with an RBI in Peoria 4-1 loss last night.
  • Reed Johnson batted as a pinch hitter, and was walked.
  • Both will play this afternoon for the Chiefs in their final rehab, the game is in Peoria starting at 2 PM CT.

Other Cubs Notes

  • The Cubs will have to make 3 roster moves tomorrow when Ramirez, Johnson and Guzman are activated.
  • There's been talk that the Cubs could send both Samardzija and Hart down and go to an 11-man pitching staff.
  • Jeff Baker and Andres Blanco are going to stay with the team according to Bruce Miles.
  • Also according to Bruce, Mike Fontenot, Jake Fox, Micah Hoffpauir, and Sam Fuld are in the running for who gets sent down. If the Cubs send both Samardzija and Hart out, then only 1 of the guys just listed will be sent down, if they send down only 1 pitcher then 2 of the 4 are headed for AAA.
  • Rich Harden says that his outing yesterday was ugly and embarrassing. He's right.
  • The Sun-Times is reporting that Lou would prefer to cut the pitching staff down to 11 for this week until the All-Star break, but not long term.
  • Tomorrow night's game against the Braves has been moved to 6:05 CT to accommodate ESPN. In Chicago the game will be on CSN.
  • Phil Rogers thinks former Cub Jason Marquis should be on the All-Star Team.
  • Royals GM Dayton Moore has heard from the Cubs, Angels, Red Sox, and Giants about Mark Teahen.

That's it for now, let's see who's an All-Star!
