Bradley is the Worst Free Agent Signing of Last off Season, No Cubs on the All Stars?, Ramirez, and More

  • Tom Verducci of SI has made a list of the players he thinks deserve to be on the All Star Team. The Cubs were 1 of the 5 teams that he does not think have any All Stars. However, one player from every team must be on the All Star team, so we'll see who makes the cut from the Cubbies.
  • Jon Heyman of SI says it's time to take a look at the best and worst free agent signings. I don't think it took and MLB Insider to determine the worst free agent signing was the Cubs Milton Bradley. Raul Ibanez, who the Cubs could'a would'a should'a had, is the best according to Heyman.
  • Aramis Ramirez is expected to be back in the lineup Monday against the Braves if all goes well in his rehab game this weekend. He will take BP tonight before joining the Class A Peoria Chiefs.
  • Angel Guzman started his rehab with the Chiefs last night pitching the first inning. He worked a quick 1, 2, 3 with 2 Ks.
  • 57% of Chicago Tribune readers agree with Phil Rodgers that the Cubs should waive Carlos Zambrano. If anybody, it should be Bradley in my mind.
  • In response to this Big Z jokingly told Paul Sullivan, "Fine, trade me to Boston."
  • The Indians have released former Cub Luis Vizcaino.

The Southern League All Stars have been announced. This year's game will be played in Birmingham, the home of the White Sox AA club the Barons.

The Cubs organization will be well represented in the event. Here are the 6 Smokies that have been named All Stars:

  • Blake Lailli, 1B
  • Darwin Barney, SS
  • James Adduci, OF
  • Casey Coleman, P
  • Jay Jackson, P
  • Brian Schlitter, P

The game is on Monday, July 13.

Some interesting, but not so encouraging, Cubs Pitching Notes:

  • Jason Marquis is pitching well for the Rockies.
  • Carlos Marmol has walked 38 in 36 innings.
  • Aaron Heilman ranks #3 in MLB for most blown saves and he's not even a closer.
  • Michael Wuertz is in the tops in MLB in K's per BB.

The MLB All Star Selection show is on TBS next Sunday at noon CT. We'll see what Cub makes the cut.

Thanks to everyone who voted on our last poll! Over half of you think Sammy Sosa will end up in the Hall of Fame! This week's question is; What Cub Should be on the NL All-Star squad?

Please vote not only on my poll, but for the Cubs in the All Star voting on MLB.com. They need your votes!
