Jeff Baker traded to the Cubs

Do we need another backup infielder? I guess so in Jim Hendry's mind! The Cubs have acquired INF Jeff Baker from the Rockies in exchange for Class A pitcher Alberto Alburquerque. Baker is expected to be in uniform for the Cubs tonight. Here are some notes on Baker:
  • Baker is a .257 career hitter with 22 HR and 88 RBIs.
  • He has been with the Rockies his entire career starting in 2005.
  • This year Baker has been on the DL with on April 27 and began a minor league rehab on June 19.
  • In 12 games this year he's hitting .130 with a .167 OBP and 3 RBIs.
  • Last year he hit .268 in 104 games.
  • He plays 1B, 3B, OF, and 2B.

The Cubs are still looking for a versatile player that can hit, again- the DeRosa trade was a mistake!

The Cubs will have to make a roster move, hopefully it's releasing or DFAing Ryan Freel. I don't want to see Blanco, Fuld, or Fox sent back to AAA yet.

Aramis Ramirez will play for Peoria tonight and could return as soon as Monday!

I'll keep you posted.
