Sosa, Fox Called Up, and Another Rain Out

  • Former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa has reportedly tested positive for PEDs.
  • I don't think that this is much of a shock to anyone. It's unfortunate that one of our Cubs fan favorites cheated to do what he did, but it was a great time for Cub fans in 1998, mostly because of Sosa. Will Sammy be inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame?
  • Jake Fox has been called up from AAA Iowa. I don't know why he was sent down in the first place. The Cubs needed the extra hitter and big bat off the bench, and a team that is struggling with the bats couldn't stay with 13 pitchers for long.
  • The corresponding move was Jason Waddell being placed on the DL. The Cubs could not have brought Fox back up yet because unless someone was injured, he had to stay in the minors for 10 days. In my opinion the Cubs may be faking this injury to Waddell.
  • Sammy was one of the 104 names from 2003 by the way.
  • Lou talks about Sosa.
  • The Cubs and White Sox were rained out yesterday. No make up date has been announced, both the Cubs and Sox have off days September 3 and 10 so we'll see.
  • Ryan Dempster will pitch today at 1:20 and Carlos Zambrano has been moved to the series finale tomorrow.
  • The weather is looking good in Chicago today.

A look at the Cubs rain make-ups:

  • June 22 VS ATL
  • July 12 VS STL (doubleheader)
  • July 30 VS HOU
  • TBA VS CWS

Cubbie Birthdays:

Haven't done these in awhile, so a happy b-day on June 9 to Mike Fontenot! Today's Cubbie Birthdays: None!

Monday: Ty Cline, Ken Henderson, Champ Summers and Billy Williams.

Yesterday: Ken Johnson, Jose Nieves, Calvin Schiraldi, and Kerry Wood.

This Date in Cubs History:

1915- In relief, Cubs right-hander George Washington Zabel throws 18 and 1/3 innings of the Cubs' 4-3 victory over in Dodgers at West Side Park. 'Zip', establishing the major league record for longest relief stint in one game, beats Brooklyn starter Jeff Pfeffer, who tosses a 19-inning complete-game.

1971- Don Kessinger goes 6-for-6, stroking five singles and a double. The Cubs leadoff hitter's perfect performance at the plate contributes to the team's 7-6 ten-inning victory over Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

I don't care who wins as long as it's the Cubs!
