All Star Break Cubs Notes

No Lilly in Mid Summer Classic
Ted Lilly, the only Cub to make the NL All Star team, did not pitch in the game last night. In my opinion the manger of the All Star Games should do a better job of trying to get everyone in, or they should cut the rosters down. The AL won the game 4-3, they're now 12-0 since 1996.

Cubs Lineup?
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune posted what he feels the Cubs lineup should be in the second half:
Sam Fuld, CF
Milton Bradley, RF
Alfonso Soriano, LF
Derrek Lee, 1B
Aramis Ramirez, 3B
Mike Fontenot, 2B
Ryan Theriot, SS
Koyie Hill, C

I like this lineup. Bradley, who gets on base a lot batting second, Fuld in the lead off spot. The only thing I don't like is Soriano hitting 3rd.

Soto Rehabbing
Geovany Soto is spending the All Star Break at the Cubs spring training complex in Mesa, Arizona. He is rehabbing from the oblique injury that could sideline him for up to a month. The Cubs want Geo to get special attention that he could not get if he stayed with the team.

Cubs Looking for Catching
Gregg Zaun is a name that Sullivan has been mentioning, but according to Paul even a backup from a non-contending team will cost the Cubs a decent prospect.
Here are the catchers that might be out there at the deadline:
Ramon Hernandez
Yorvit Torrealba
Ivan Rodriguez
Javier Valentin

Other Guys the Cubs could add:
The Cubs might be looking to bulster the bullpen at before the July 31 trade deadline, here's some guys that are trade candidate relievers:
Kerry Wood
Rafael Soriano
Danys Baez
LaTroy Hawkins
Rafael Betancourt
Russ Springer
George Sherrill
Chad Qualls
John Grabow
Matt Capps
Juan Cruz
Joe Beimel
Takashi Saito
Heath Bell
Cla Meredith

B.J. Ryan
We've heard from Cubs.com and the Chicago Tribune that the Cubs are interested in Ryan. Cameron Smith of the Washington Post also feels that Ryan could be a nice fit for the Cubs.

Cubs First Half Highlights
Here is the WGN Radio Cubs recap of the first half for David Kaplan's blog.

Cubs Legends Top Sox Legends
Last night in the Cubs Legends beat the Sox Legends 7-2, part of the Frontier League All Star Events. Keith Moreland had a 2 run double in the 5th inning, and former Cubs pitcher and GM Ed Lynch received the Win.

  1. That really makes me mad, Lilly could have stayed home with his family and rested. But no he had to go to St. Louis and get ready if he were to pitch.

AND Charlie Manual used Ryan Howard with 2 men on base with 2 outs against arguably the best closer in baseball in Joe Nathan. He should of used Freddy Sanchez, who would have made contact.
