Gail Fisher sat down with Lou Piniella:
- Lou says that he and everybody else were expecting that last year was the year.
- Piniella says, "It wasn't that we got beat, it was that we got swept again."
- He really look the loss hard last year because he cares.
- Gail asked if this year's team is built to win the World Series. Lou says he thought last years team was built to win.
- Piniella likes what Jim Hendry did this off season.
- Lou stresses the importance of worrying about playing good ball all summer first.
- He says that he has enjoyed the city, the field, and the team. He calls it a "wonderful, wonderful experience".
- Lou admits that managing in Chicago is a challenge for him.
Gail talked with Milton Bradley:
- Bradley is happy that he is going to be with the Cubs for a while.
- Milton doesn't believe in pressure.
- He says he likes being in a winning environment.
- Bradley is all about winning.
- He is "all for October baseball".
- Bradley is sick of talking about his health and his temper.
- Milton thinks that the the "media has it completely wrong about him".
Derrek Lee chatted with Gail:
- Lee says that it was really strange that the Cubs got swept out of the playoffs for the second year in a row.
- He thinks that the front office did the job of putting the talent together. Lee doesn't feel like the Dodgers were better that the Cubs last year.
- Derrek says the turnover on the roster show the commitment that the front office has to winning.
- He says that the Cubs have been missing a left handed bat in the middle of the order. Adding Bradley will make a big difference.
- Lee wants to focus on the 162 game season, not October yet.
- Derrek says that the 2008 Cubs were better on paper than the 2003 World Series champion Marlins.
- His daughter Jada is doing better. That's great new for Lee!
Kevin Gregg was up next...
- Gregg says that coming to Chicago is a new opportunity for him.
- Kevin doesn't think anyone is going to replace Kerry, but he is going to try to do a good job replacing him.
- He is excited about getting back to a city where there is 40,000 fans at each game.
- Gregg expects to win and do well no matter what team he is pitching for.
Geovany Soto chatted with Gail next:
- Soto feels a lot more responsibility this year.
- He is here to work hard and have another good year.
- Geo is going to just be himself, he will just try to do his job offensively and not try to do to much.
- His hand hurt a lot at the end of last year.
- "What happened (last year) happened, it's 2009 now."
- Soto thinks that the WBC will help him (this interview was reccorded before he left).
- Geo just wants to be the best catcher and player he can for the Chicago Cubs.
