Home Opener Quick Hits

  • According to the Tribune, Milton Bradley might miss today's game and is listed as day-to-day with a strained right groin.
  • The weather is not looking good right now. The Cubs will make a decision sometime this morning as to whether or not the game will be played.
  • The players did not report to the ballpark early this morning, and will not take Batting Practice today.
  • Geovany Soto was used as a pinch hitter last night. He could be used off the bench again today, but will not start until Wednesday.

The Cubs are 75-56 all time in their Home Opener. This is the first time the Cubs have hosted the Rockies for the Home Opener.

It's not raining yet in Chicago, but there is a 80% chance it will be by 1:00. There is a rain makeup day tomorrow, but there's a 60% chance of rain tomorrow!

I'll keep you posted.

Let's hope they get this one in!

  1. I think we need Peavy or a good starter, prefer Peavy because Marshsall needs to be in the pen. Cotts sucks and need Marshall to be the reliable lefty.

  2. I agree with you. We need another lefty in the pen. I am not saying go get Peavy, but it would be nice, but we need to look around and see if we can pick up a young pitcher.

    Go CuBs!

  3. Cotts job is to face the best player or players the opposing team had to offer.

  4. Phil it is but if you cant throw strikes what are you doing then.

Tanner Peavy is young at 27, I dont know a younger pitcher that will be anailable at the deadline.
If The Cubs get Peavy they will have 3 27 year olds in Zambrano, Harden and then Peavy.

  5. I agree with Tanner and Waldo that it would be nice to move Marshall to the bullpen. Cotts has to go, so we either need to bring up Waddell, sign a left handed reliever or get Marshall in the bullpen. Let's give Cotts at least until the end of April though.

Happy the game is starting! Go Cubs Go!

  6. One thing that made my upset this offseason, well spring training, there were a proven lefty still in FA. Will Ohman was still out of a job. Why the heck didnt the Cubs go after him? I know he use to be a Cub and all, but they still should have talked to him.

Does anybody think Cubs will resign Harden? I am worried that they wont.

  7. Ricardo Ricon is the only left handed reliever that is a Free Agent right now. Ricon has a 3.59 ERA. I think he is worth a try at this point.

I think it's too early to tell if the Cubs will bring back Harden. If he has a solid year and stays healthy, I think they will.

  8. Boys, it's been 1 week!! If we're still having bullpen issues at the end of April, then let's panic. I'm not a big fan of Cotts or Greg at this point either, but let's see what happens. At first I was upset that Marmol was not the closer, those without those outs in the 7th and 8th, there won't be a save opportunity in the 9th. My big concern right now is Milton Bradley. I know it's only been 1 week, but I have a lot of doubts about him playing the field for the entire season.

  9. Like I said, we need to give Cotts at least until the end of April, but he has not looked good so far. I agree Anonymous that the 7th and 8th innings are equally important as the 9th inning. We just need to see who has the most success in which roles.

I'm a little worried about Bradley, but once he come back from this injury, hopefully he'll get the bat going.

Neal Cotts is throwing in the Cubs pen right now!
Great game by Lilly, almost an Opening Day no-hitter!

    Go Cubs Go!

  10. Joe Beimel was out there to and he was signed to a 1 year 2 million deal. He has a 430 era in his career and would be better than Cotts.

I would like the Cubs to move Theriot to second and try to trade for Christian Guzman, he went 5 for 5 as of right now. Use Fontenot as utility for short third and second and trade Miles for a PTBNL. Then trade Castilla stevens Vitters (will not be an elite player, will be like Pie when moves to another team plays good) and Hart for Peavy.

  11. I'd rather just keep Theriot at SS. If they made that move it would defeat the purposed of trading DeRosa to get a left handed bat in the lineup because you would gave Guzman (Right handed hitter) at SS and Theriot (Right handed hitter) at 2B. I don't want to see Fontenot back on the because.

I'm already tired of hearing about Jake Peavy!

  12. ^I just checked that and Guzman is actually a switch hitter. That makes more sense now, but I still want to keep Little Babe Ruth in the lineup.
